In July 2008, Caylee’s grandmother, Cynthia Anthony, reported the toddler missing to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The child’s remains were found in December 2008 in a wooded area less than half a mile from the family’s home. Casey has been charged with first-degree murder and, if convicted, will face the death penalty.
Although there is no record of Casey Anthony holding a job in 2008, television network ABC reportedly purchased family videos and photos of Caylee for $200,000. It is unclear whether the money was paid to Casey Anthony or to her attorney, Jose Baez, and whether or not the money was used to pay defense costs. If paid directly to Casey then she is responsible for reporting the money to the IRS and is liable for any back taxes and related fees due.
