Casey Anthony Hit With Federal Tax Lien Days Before Her Murder Trial

Share

The IRS has filed a $68,520 tax lien against alleged child murderer Casey Anthony for unpaid federal income taxes, interest and penalties from 2008. The 25-year-old is currently on trial in Orlando, FL for the murder of her two-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony. The lien was filed just days prior to opening arguments in the murder trial.

In July 2008, Caylee’s grandmother, Cynthia Anthony, reported the toddler missing to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The child’s remains were found in December 2008 in a wooded area less than half a mile from the family’s home. Casey has been charged with first-degree murder and, if convicted, will face the death penalty.

Although there is no record of Casey Anthony holding a job in 2008, television network ABC reportedly purchased family videos and photos of Caylee for $200,000. It is unclear whether the money was paid to Casey Anthony or to her attorney, Jose Baez, and whether or not the money was used to pay defense costs. If paid directly to Casey then she is responsible for reporting the money to the IRS and is liable for any back taxes and related fees due.
