Below are some common IRS phone numbers for various taxpayers and reasons which you can use to reach the IRS or Internal Revenue Service. Make note that each phone number is for a specific function and needs to be considered. All numbers are operational Monday to Friday.

Individual Taxpayer IRS Phone Number: 1-800-829-1040

This number is for individual taxpayers to have their questions answered living in the US including the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Use for example, for tax return procedures questions, to ask about a notice you received, to request an IRS Installment Agreement, to request a lost W-2, etc.
Operational Hours: This number is valid from 7 am to 10 pm within your local time zone.

Business Taxpayer IRS Phone Number: 1-800-829-4933

This number again can be used to address some of the same examples given above with the individual taxpayer line. However, this is solely for businesses. However, if you are an exempt organization (non-profit), government entity or admin for a retirement plan use the number below. This number is for businesses to have their questions answered living in the US including the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Tax-Exempt Organizations IRS Phone Number: 1-800-829-4933

For tax-exempt organizations, government organizations, as well as retirement plan administrators. This number is not to be used for for-profit organizations.

Hearing Impaired Taxpayer Telephone Assistance: 1-800-829-4059 (TDD)
