Joe Stack Tries to Kamikaze the IRS, Owed $12.7K in Back Taxes

February 18th, 2010 by Manny Davis

Joe Stack set his Austin, TX house on fire, then flew a single-engine plane into a building in Austin that houses Federal offices including an IRS office. The motive of the crash seems to be attacking the IRS due to the fact that he set his house on fire and left a suicide note that attacks the government and the Internal Revenue Service. Joe Stack says at the end of his suicide note he says, “Well, Mr. Big Brother IRS man, let’s try something different; take my pound of flesh and sleep well.”

Joe apparently had a history of problems with the IRS where he forgot to file a tax return and was audited because he and his wife forgot to report about $12,700 in income.

The IRS has a few offices on the first floor of the 9400 Block of Research Blvd, N. Austin, TX that Joe flew into. Specifically, it has its civil enforcement and criminal investigation units on the 1st floor with the total building holding about 200 IRS employees.

Right now, all individuals from the criminal division seem to be fine with no word yet regarding employees from the civil unit. Later reports today stated that thirteen individuals were injured with two casualties.

Initially, the Homeland Security Spokesman Matt Chandler confirmed, “At this time we have no reason to believe there is a nexus to criminal or terrorist activity,” but with the suicide letter update it seems that the Homeland Security Department will have to reclassify it as a criminal activity.
