TMZ reported just hours ago, that Anna Nicole Smith, when she passed, owed about $35k in back taxes from earnings in 2006. Now with tax interest and penalties added, she owes about $43k in taxes and cash-strapped California is trying to collect as the legal process of distributing her property and resolving all claims called “Probate” takes place. It was the the California State Franchise Tax Board that has filed this claim.
As you can see States including the IRS is this downturn are doing EVERYTHING they can to recoup lost tax dollars so getting into the compliance with the IRS or State is not recommended, it is necessary.
